Space D&D & using other people's material

Right now, if I were going to add an outer space element to my Metal Earth home game, space craft rules would be handled by a combination of Spelljammer and XXVc; earth would be the Metal Earth, Mars would be Athas (Dark sun), Venus would be Carcosa or Athanor and counter earth would be Planet Algol.

  1. IF?

Do it! If you were a wizard, isn't flying through space one of the first things you'd do?

My D&D spacefaring is thus far focused on small asteroids, moons, and floating corpses of gigantic space monsters. Players haven't been to any other major planets yet. I'm using original D&D with some core rules from Spelljammer and hombrewage. The newest starship they just found is a large wooden box that is powered by cloud crystals that turn flesh into iridescent salts.

  2. Ha, indeed- by if I mean when. I'm planning a mega dungeon that is actually an abandoned floating city (drifting slowly over the surface of the world) and the main treasure in that adventure will be a gleaming silver XXVc style rocketship.

  4. Sounds like a fantastic way to get mileage out of all your cool D&D stuff without consigning yourself to running nothing but D&D for the rest of your life. :)
    (Unless you're into that...)

  5. Go for it! I'm also busted out my copy of Buck & begun to look into using some of it for my Advanced Human Space Empires game!
