I used water colors (stolen from my kids) on the final product. I'm actually surprised it came out so well.Aoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00145284080419502886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2248254789731612355.post-4840019723032776842011-07-16T23:59:50.275-07:002011-07-16T23:59:50.275-07:00This is cool and the map is very pretty. Have you thought about adding it to the Sea of O'sr project?

http://carterscartopia.blogspot.com/p/sea-of-osr-adventure-path.html

@ christian - You have very fresh material too, in the supernatural LA for example.Porkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00604351052444947490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2248254789731612355.post-42646782963431925042011-07-16T19:03:06.683-07:002011-07-16T19:03:06.683-07:00(Previous comment deleted due to dumbassery) Let m...(Previous comment deleted due to dumbassery) Let me try that again...

I find that force feeding myself old comics and pulp fiction for a couple of months at a time usually gets my brain cranking. Also, drawing (even if you suck at it like me) helps. I find that making a map and imagining factions on the landscape helps me come up with new stuff. The most important thing, I think, though, is having a willingness to determine where your boundaries and frozen preconceptions are and figure out a way to get around them. (I hope that doesn't come off as condescending; if it does, just remember I'm an idiot).

For instance, it's my understanding that up until the Wright Brothers came along everyone who was trying to make an airplane had the wings flapping like a bird. The solution was to turn away from that preconception and go with fixed wing aircraft. Here, I wanted to make a big island but only had a small hex to place it in. IMO, the solution of the Time-space depression not only solved that problem- it made the whole thing far cooler.

Islands, btw, are great because as Darwin noted they are more or less closed systems. I know it sounds totally pretensions, but I am always thinking about Evolution and History when I make something like this.

It is my hope to make the Factory live up to its promise. I have to admit, so far, I'm pretty happy with where this is going in my head.Aoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00145284080419502886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2248254789731612355.post-32067144869458537162011-07-16T18:07:23.448-07:002011-07-16T18:07:23.448-07:00I wish my brain worked like this. I'm picturing all kinds of horrific machinery, industrial accidents, left-over from the time of the Lost Wars - and not to mention its current madling sorcerer.christianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09650456794111980661noreply@blogger.com
